items due now question

Jupiter C   August 21st, 2012 8:07a.m.

Hi - hoping i can get some clarification regarding the items due now list. It seems to increase by 1000 words every day. I didn't use Skritter for a couple days and the due now list went up from 800 words to to nearly 2700 due.

Is this normal? I'm really unclear as to how words are added to the list

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Words added to Skritter work under a 'SRS' spaced-repetition system.

So, if you add a word you don't know, and get it wrong, it will be due pretty soon. If you get it right, you'll see it a little later.

For example, you add 你好, and get it right. It might be due again in 1 day. If you get it right again, it might be due again in 3 days. Next time, 6 days, the time after 12 days. If at this point you then get it wrong, you might next see it in 3 days.

What has probably happened in your case is that you've added a lot of words that you are getting wrong, and are adding too many new ones before you know the old ones.

I would slow down the rate you're adding at, and probably turn adding off for a little while. I would also go to study settings and change your target retention rate down to 90% on somesuch. Also, it really helps if you can study a little every day.

I generally get around 70-150 reviews a day, depending on how many words I've added recently.
