Missing time and longer time

Doug (松俊江)   August 15th, 2009 11:07a.m.

When I practice, I find it helps to set a goal of (say) one hour. Once my timer gets above this mark I then hit the stats page but I often see it below the one hour line and when I go back to the practice page I find that not all the time has been recorded. How can I make sure that all the data from the end of a Skritter session is being captured?

On a somewhat related note, I find that it takes a fair bit longer than an hour to do an hour's worth of practice. Some of it stems from going over 30 seconds for a character (which is OK since it's usually me mentally spacing out) but the other is when I write a character with help (using the show me function) and then erase it and rewrite it a few times in a row. This takes some time to do but it helps me to get the character into my mind so that I can remember it later. Unfortunately none of this time 'counts' for Skritter - there are also short pauses in other places (e.g. between characters) that add up. It's not a huge deal but it would be nice for the time to be counted.

There are several places where rounding errors can cause time to leak through, and the 15/30-second prompt timeouts are just stopgaps until more intelligent AFK tracking can be implemented. Then we can see how long you really spent on a character, and also avoid counting time toward characters when you were really doing something else.

What do other users think about counting/not counting time spent rewriting a character after one has written it? I could go either way on this one. It seems to be a question of whether users want more time to be counted ("I practiced a long time, all right!") or less ("But I didn't really spend a whole 10 seconds on that character, 'cause I did it in 5 and then was just thinking about a mnemonic for it for later").
