Skritter stopped adding from later sections

gregorcn86   September 3rd, 2011 7:23a.m.

Hi there,

I've been looking through the forums and wasn't able to find a similar questions, so here's the thing.

In my custom list, skritter at a certain section (20) just stopped adding from later sections. Could it be that I'm constantly adding sections to the list and skritter doesn't know they are 'there'?

The study settings for this list were, Study Mode: Add, Vocabs from: Section 1, no sections skipped. Here's a screenshot:

If I changed the study settings to "add from section 21 and following), skritter would add the new words, but then I'm not sure if vocab from earlier sections is being reviewed as well, since those are 'skipped' right?

Could somebody enlightend me?

Thanks!

That problem looks familiar to me. I discussed a similar problem here:
http://www.skritter.com/forum/topic?id=113038330

It also happens to me when I change the list by adding sections. I'm not sure what gets it unstuck, either "Change Study Settings" and then "Save" without changing anything, or just waiting... Another thing to try in order to jumpstart a stalled list might be to press the "Study List" or "Study Section" buttons for that list or for a particular section you want to study.

Thanks Kai for the suggestions. I'll give it a try and hope this gets fixed soon :)

Cheers,

Check your settings:
From the "account" tab go to"study settings" and look at the last item. That's a choice between "stop at the end of each setting" and "move to the next section after completing a section" (or something like that). It sounds like you want the second choice there.

Thanks for the reply, sarac. "Move to next section when complete" is the active setting, as I suppose it's the default one anyway.

It looks like you've reset the list to the beginning and are having it go through the whole thing? That should fix the "stucky" problem, whatever it was, but then there's another problem that it's going to take a while to get back to where you were on the list. If you'd like I can jump your list ahead so you don't have to wait for the system to do it slowly. I'll soon be fixing it so that it won't take forever to catch back up to your last point on a list.

Unfortunately it's hard to fix the underlying problem with the list getting stuck if the settings have been changed since. If the list isn't moving forward when it should, leave it be and let me know and I'll look at it and figure out exactly what's causing it.

Hi Scott, if you could jump the list ahead to section 23, that'd be great.

Will let you know, if it happens again and thanks for the great support!

Cheers

Done!

stelingo   September 10th, 2011 10:05p.m.

After reading this thread and the link posted by Kai, I am now confused as to how I should add sections to my list. When I have added a new section, the previous sections were often 'done' and the list would be 'finished, so i would start adding from the new section, as this seemed the only way to restart the list. I didn't realise this meant previous words were taken out of study. This would explain why I had relatively few reviews, even after not studying for a week. I have just now restarted adding from the first section. Now Having looked at the other sections, many word are yet to be added, even though I have actually studied them.

So could you tell me what I should do in future when I add a new section, to ensure the words are added even when all the previous sections are done and the list is finished?

scott   September 12th, 2011 5:25p.m.

That's an easy answer! You don't have to do anything (or you shouldn't have to anyway). The list will automatically restart and start adding from the newly added sections. This is one of the major new features of the list system; you don't have to tweak the settings even if you modify or create sections in the list.

atdlouis   September 12th, 2011 6:48p.m.

1. Remix the list. Delete the later sections that you aren't studying (sections 21+). Leave it as "review only"

2. Go to the original list. Set it to "Start reviewing from section 21".

Because you have a remixed version of sections 1-20, you will still be reviewing that vocab. You don't need to worry about it being lost.

scott   September 12th, 2011 9:21p.m.

Ah, atdlouis, that's probably not the best way. If you did that, you'd still end up removing sections 1-20 in the second step. You'd have to add back the entire remixed list to get them all studied again. Really the best way is just to add the words to the existing list and not do anything else.
