Wacom Bamboo Issue

StaceyM   April 5th, 2012 3:41a.m.

Hi everyone,

Quick question; has anyone else set their tablet to the recommended settings, yet still have issues with pen strokes not being registered? I tried changing the nib as well as readjusting my settings, but it still feels like I need an excessive amount to pressure to register a pen stroke. I find this usually happens with the smaller pen strokes. Has anyone else had this issue? How did you resolve it?

Thanks!

PS - my tablet is about three months old.

Have you tried adjusting the softness settings up or down?

nick   April 5th, 2012 9:06a.m.

I find that carefully setting the recommended settings does the trick, but that sometimes the settings can be resetting themselves or doing other weird things. It definitely sounds like one of the problems that you would get if the settings weren't adjusted from default according to http://www.skritter.com/wacoms/settings

StaceyM   April 5th, 2012 12:21p.m.

@mratranslate I have tried adjusting the softness up and down, and writing a couple dozen kanji to ensure that I gave the new setting a chance.

@nick I have tried the settings outlined according to http://www.skritter.com/wacoms/settings and the problem remained. Perhaps I will restore to defaults, and then set according to the (Skritter) recommended settings from there.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try again and see what happens!

How's your internet connection/GPU?

I've found that slow internet speeds and more limited hardware can have a drastic effect on how well the tablet works.

StaceyM   April 5th, 2012 10:07p.m.

@joshwhitson13 My internet connection is the best in the area (my brother is a big fan of MMO games so only the best will do, haha) and I've got a relatively new (~ 1 yr old) Asus laptop with whatever came standard. It's not a gaming laptop, so I'm sure it's just a run of the mill type thing. I was thinking of reformatting it, would that help/hinder things?

joshwhitson13   April 5th, 2012 10:32p.m.

Reformatting won't make it worse, you just won't necessarily see that big of a performance increase.

It might just be an issue with the laptop. I got a super lightweight thinkpad to take with me to work/China this summer, and it struggles with the tablet.

Also try a few different browsers. I found that when on the laptop Skritter runs better with the tablet in chrome than it does in firefox.

@joshwhitson13 I'll try running it in Chrome and see if it makes a difference! I typically use Firefox, so that could potentially be the issue as well. Thanks for the help!

Yeah I love Firefox for most things, but Chrome is certainly superior to it for Skrittering...I get much faster reaction times on Chrome. Less lag in recognizing the strokes!

nick   April 6th, 2012 11:18a.m.

There have been even been some reports of users finding great performance in Internet Explorer that they don't get in Chrome or Firefox. It truly does vary a lot who finds which browsers fastest for Skritter on which operating systems, with which Flash versions, at what times and on which phases of the moon.

StaceyM   April 6th, 2012 1:33p.m.

@foozlesprite @nick

I have tried other browsers now and they seem slightly better...sometimes. Maybe I'm just impatient, and/or rushing a bit when skrittering. I've reset to default and then gone back to the Skritter recommended settings, now I'll try slowing down my writing a bit and being more careful.

I noticed last night that when I write on paper, I write very cautiously as compared to my 'quick and dirty' writing on Skritter. I think because I know that the strokes will be recognized (mostly, the little ones seem to be the issue) that I get a little sloppy with my writing. Time to clean things up a bit I guess!

mykal   April 9th, 2012 3:42p.m.

I have similar issues with using my Wacom tablet and Skritter. When I Skritter on MacOS, I experience a lot of lag/missing strokes when using Chrome or Firefox. When i use Safari, I don't experience any lag when writing, but the browser will freeze every so often, as though it is trying to catch up.

StaceyM   April 9th, 2012 11:03p.m.

@mykal I'm sad to see that you are also having some issues with your Wacom, but slightly glad to know that I'm not the only one! I changed the nib on my pen, reset to the Skritter recommended settings and changed the orientation of my Wacom - all of this seems to have helped. The problem hasn't disappeared, but it is certainly less noticeable now.
