Forum questions

radiator   July 25th, 2012 5:54a.m.

1) Is it possible to change your user name?

2) Is it possible to see which topics in the forum were last updated?

Catherine :)   July 25th, 2012 6:05a.m.

1) no, but you can change your display name (that shows on the forum) here http://www.skritter.com/account/settings-general

2) click on the 'created' column header in the forum, and it will change to 'updated'

radiator   July 25th, 2012 7:39a.m.

When I log into the forum, it says welcome "New Forum Name", but when I am typing in the forum (like now), it reverts to the username and not the display name.

It looks like the forum display name function is not working correctly.

Maybe it's just an issue with cookies or something, your name has changed to radiator as I see it.

nick   July 25th, 2012 6:17p.m.

These things do get cached for speed, so it may take a while for all Skritter server instances to get your new display name. We figured this is not a big deal, since display names change so infrequently but are queried all the time.

radiator   July 25th, 2012 9:30p.m.

Yes, I figured as much and have no problem with that. It looks like it is presented now as I intended. Thanks for the insights.

Doesn't 'created' show when the topic was first raised. So if something really old is updated, it stays down the list? It would be useful to see when things are updated, rather than created.

CC   July 26th, 2012 3:00a.m.

After I wrote the above, the topic is showing as '21 hours ago' in the 'created' column, even though I just wrote it a few seconds ago.

Byzanti   July 26th, 2012 5:31a.m.

Do what Catherine said in the second post.... Click on the 'created' text at the top of the forum page and it'll change to 'updated' which is what you want.

CC   July 26th, 2012 8:44a.m.

Ah! Apologies, I'd misunderstood, and it didn't work earlier for some reason. It is now, so I feel stupid, not for the first time! Thanks for the help.

Is it possible to have the forum responses listed in reverse chronological order?

I think this would be handy so I don't have to scroll to the bottom to see the latest comments.

scott   July 28th, 2012 12:17p.m.

That might be a little confusing; all forums I've seen show posts in chronological order.

You might try using the "Email replies to me" checkbox in the upper right. Then you receive the replies, and just the replies in the email, at least for those you're most interested in.

radiator   July 28th, 2012 2:37p.m.

I can see how it would be if people are not used to it. And the "email replies" I do use, and they do help.

But bulletin boards like phpBB and some of the others I frequent can be set that way, settable via the settings (e.g. Plecoforums). I find it useful as I do not want to always be re-introduced to the beginning of a long train of messages.

With that said, not a big deal for me either way.
