Can't see the characters

夔灝賢   October 3rd, 2014 3:41a.m.

I can't read any of the characters. Only when I have to write the tones I can see the characters

mawapa44   October 3rd, 2014 3:47a.m.

Same problem here as yesterday. Can't see characters on iPad - web is okay. When asked definition or pin yin - doesn't show characters.

vancesos   October 3rd, 2014 5:55a.m.

Same deal here, but only for the ipad!

delalaym   October 3rd, 2014 7:13a.m.

Yes same thing here! Please fix it! I'm paying for this service and can't use it! :(

Neil Mc   October 3rd, 2014 7:41a.m.

This started for me today on my iPhone 5 when I updated to the latest version (2.6.0)

DependableSkeleton   October 3rd, 2014 8:04a.m.

After the update, the definition and reading prompts do not show characters on the iPhone. I am not running ios 8

fluvius1   October 3rd, 2014 9:15a.m.

Same here on my iPhone, after both an app and iOS upgrade happened same day. Is this happening on Android? At least one of my other iPhone apps has ceased to work after the iPhone upgrades, so this might be an Apple issue.

SkritterJake   October 3rd, 2014 12:40p.m.

There is a bug in the latest Skritter version (2.6.0) that only shows up on 32-bit iOS devices. We have found the bug and submitted a fix that is waiting for Apple's approval. More details can be found at the following forum post:

http://www.skritter.com/forum/topic?id=2571653696

We're terribly sorry about the inconvenience this is causing. In the meantime, you can still study tone and writing prompts from Advanced Study and review other prompts using the Flash version on your computer.

夏普本   October 3rd, 2014 3:22p.m.

Doesn't work on both my ipad and iphone. Hope this doesn't last long, I'm already well behind on my reviews.

hooshhk   October 3rd, 2014 9:20p.m.

Same here. On iPhone 5, iOS 8 (but it worked for a while on iOS 8 before).

seafarer   October 4th, 2014 4:36a.m.

Same problem on iphone5 iOs7. Please fix it!

timezero   October 4th, 2014 5:43a.m.

I am wondering how long does it usually take for Apple to approve updates?

If it it is going to be another few days or week(?), I would wish to know, so that I can find an alternative solution to practice my characters for class.

lydebel   October 4th, 2014 8:34a.m.

Same problem here. For now I press the speaker button to be able to figure out what character skritter is asking for a definition.

johnmcgeough   October 4th, 2014 3:38p.m.

I too updated the app and now cannot see the characters. I am running IOS 7, on IPAD. Hope it will be fixed soon!

SkritterJake   October 4th, 2014 3:38p.m.

We're hoping that Apple will expedite the update since the only change is a bug fix, but it's really hard to say for sure. Typically it takes about a week for updates to be approved and posted to the iTunes store.

In the meantime, you can still study tone and writing prompts from Advanced Study and review other prompts using the Flash version on your computer. It's not the ideal solution, but hopefully that can help keep reviews from getting too crazy!

本杰明   October 4th, 2014 10:19p.m.

I'm surprised how many people use the iOS software exclusively. The web version is much better in my opinion.

Apomixis   October 4th, 2014 10:47p.m.

The portability of having Skritter in my hand is so much better than sitting in front of a computer screen. My iPad has nearly replaced a desktop/laptop computer in my life, and if it could just do a few things better, I would love to drop the clunky device. The convenience of Skritter on iOS far, far, FAR outweighs the availability of a few extra features but being chained to a desk.

zult   October 5th, 2014 1:24a.m.

I'm looking forward to the fix as I have the problem too.

I'm using skritter japanese on an iPhone 5.

ricksh   October 5th, 2014 5:40a.m.

Apomixis, you don't have to be chained to your desk with web version, if you have something mobile that can run it, have used it on running machine today for example!

ricksh   October 5th, 2014 5:42a.m.

To add, hope iOS version continues to develop/work though, I use it on planes - apple should really cut back their review time (given their review time doesn't seem to check it works, so what are they reviewing?)

Apomixis   October 5th, 2014 9:25a.m.

@ricksh: IIRC, the regular web version uses Flash, which iOS doesnt support (unless you use a third party redirection solution like Photon web browser), so that's not a solution for that case. I've used a desktop browser to get to Skritter periodically when I've had to enter large amounts of characters and prep new lists...the regular Skritter is superior when it comes to this use case, but mostly because you can have multiple windows open simultaneously which allows better cut-and-paste user experiences. I'll admit that I haven't tried the HTML5 Android solution that Skritter has talked about as being in Beta, so can't comment on how well it's functioning....I should probably give it a go and see how it works. But the other factor, for me and my non-cellular iPad, is that the iOS app functions completely offline and I only have to connect up to synch periodically. I've never tried Skritter on a phone only connected to cell service, but since I live in a relatively rural location where phone calls often drop when I'm in my house, I'd be hesitant to rely only on cellular-based Skritter. That being said, the ubiquity of high-speed wifi nearly everywhere I go, including my own house, does indeed make a lot of that concern moot since iOS devices jump over to wifi instead of cellular when you set up the connection.

Ganymede   October 5th, 2014 9:54a.m.

Latest iOS update also disables background audio; no more Spotify :(

本杰明   October 6th, 2014 6:51a.m.

Who needs portability when you sit at your computer all day anyway ;D

pa2bra   October 13th, 2014 6:33a.m.

I am also hurry to get the fix, I cannot use it anymore on my iphone or ipad!

Hong   October 13th, 2014 9:13a.m.

still not working in my iPad...

nick   October 14th, 2014 2:16p.m.

2.6.1 is finally approved, so check the App Store for the update. (If you don't see it, wait an hour or two for it to finish rolling out.) All 2.6.1 does is fix this missing characters bug. Background audio / mute switch changes will come later in another update that I can now submit.
