SRS pushing items to far to fast.

I know this have been debated before and I really should trust the system but it simply do not work for me. I recently nuked my account, again.I have been studying for only a few weeks and have already characters that are due for writing in 9 years or more. Yes, I did get them correct the first, second, third time etc but pushing them 9 years in to the future is simply not good for me. I need to have them reviewed at least once a year or so. I have an terrible long time memory, are middle aged with worsening memory etc;-). I really would like something that allowed me to get the words back for review earlier without having to nuke my account every 3-4 months. Maybe a setting with max age for next review or to be able to nuke only the due date. I know that current settings is probably good for most people but for me with bad memory and an willingness to spend the time to do extra reviews it would be better to be able to review more frequently. With current algorithm I can speed learn a character in a few weeks and then have it pushed years in to the future but I will for sure forget that character long before that. Just a friendly request.

Try bumping up the retention rate to 95 or 97%.

Second MB's request. Will try bumping up retention rate, but worry that it is indirect and may result in slowing down the rate of adding.

PS: is the Skritter on Sina an "official" account?

Mandarinboy   September 2nd, 2011 3:22p.m.

I have it on 97% but that does not stop it from pushing it far in to the future, more the contrary.

You're getting hit by a special case where an item that is never gotten wrong gets pushed back very quickly. It may work better for you if you intentionally get each item wrong the first time, which will then use the normal track for scheduling instead of the fast track.

This special case is there because most people don't want to be bothered much by items they already knew when they start with Skritter, so it's an easy way to get them out of the way quickly without them having to actively manage it. But I can see that in your use case, it's getting in the way. Do you think that getting things wrong the first time will be doable, or do you want something more automatic?

Yeah, I created a Skritter account on Weibo, but I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. Any suggestions for how to use it?

Re:Sina Although I've been signed up for FB etc for many years, in essence I'm still a social networking 菜鸟. I'm pretty sure I will only ever be a passive participant on these things as I don't have the ability, patience or sufficiently clued-up inner editor to provide good content on a sustained basis.

I just assumed that once you had some critical mass the cool content would flow :-) Whom would you want to reach using Sina? Expats? Locals?

nick   September 3rd, 2011 8:49a.m.

It was suggested that we should reach expats with it. I would also get to practice my Chinese, which is more fun than writing on Twitter.

@nick, see your point. The problem for me is that i from time to just simply forget even very simple characters. On the other hand, I also tend to forget the names on close relatives etc as well so the real reason is a trashed memory. I try to mark characters wrong or semi learned from time to time to keep them active.
