iPad Commercial

Perhaps this is old news, but i just saw an iPad Commercial in which a user writes 友 (I believe) using his finger. Maybe just character recognition. Some of the iP's have had character recognition for awhile, but I was very impressed that Apple was showing off Chinese on the iPad.

The character looks much better on the larger screen. It seems that the larger screen makes it easier to write HanZi with just your finger.

Interesting to hear this, although I wonder if it would comfortable enough to write characters this way.

I have both and iPhone and an iPad and adding the Chinese keyboard and then writing characters is really nice (and works natively on all iDevices so mail, notes, sms etc can all take characters). The big screen of the iPad is obviously much easier, but the iPhone one is also pretty good. It's also really good practise because the iPhone/iPad Chinese character recognition is a real sticker about stroke order - it doesn't just look at the final image, it looks at how you wrote it so order is very important. For practise I write about half my sms's in chinese these days and find it really helpful.

The only problem I've had is the few times it seems to have a different stroke order than skritter. Very rare but when it does happens I'm stuck.
