Phone version not working properly

DaXia   September 8th, 2011 10:22a.m.

Hi!
Maybe you guys are already aware of this, but the phone version of skritter has been loading extremely slow, even on wifi. It's been slow and weird for a few weeks now, but the last few days it's been so slow that its practically unusable. It's not the network, since I have tried both with and without wifi, and on 2 different wifi networks.

The weird thing is that it works properly on the computer, and I always thought that it was the same "page" or whatever.

Yes, the waiting time between words is obscene. It seems fairly snappy once everything's loaded, but waiting on it is an exercise in frustration.

I think that this is a limitation of relying on the online databases, current phone networks don't seem to be up to the task.

I often use Skritter on my desire HD while on the bus between work, university and home, however the time that it takes to load my word lists is almost unbearable, as the signal is continually lost and regained.

One workaround I have found is to have a page constantly open, so it has a preloaded set of words, however if for whatever reason my phone resets, or I accidentally close the browser window, then inevitably the lists have to be reloaded.

I know that an offline version of the application is still not on the cards, but this is something that I personally would pay money for if it was made available.

I would also be interested in an "offline" Android version of Skritter. I wonder if it would be able to be more refined for devices than just seeking to use the web page. The web page is well designed for a computer screen, but I find it frustrating to use on my 7" tablet. I also see lag issues that I imagine would be less with an on device app. (I am using wifi exclusively when I skritter on my tablet)

Of course I have no idea what it would take to set up such an app so the skritter guys might just be rolling their eyes right now...

I imagine it's more hitting the bottle than rolling their eyes.

The iphone version that's currently being done will supposedly have an offline mode.

Maybe that's my problem: I don't drink. If I drank, this Android version would surely have me liquored up every day before noon. Five threads in a row, all about Skritter on Android.

Tuesday. That's when I'm stealing George's phone, rewriting the layout engine, and trying to figure out what's going wrong with the slow loading and freezing, since I can't debug any of it on my tablet. Thanks for your patience!

A Skritter drinking game! Every time an Android complaint is made take a shot!!!

I approve of this idea.

This would seem counter productive
