Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

frequency lists

Check Skritter vocab lists, there you have a ton of them, both words and character lists. Some based on books, others on news or movie subtitles. Even the HSK lists can act as a sort of frequency lists.

As Mandarinboy suggests, the HSK lists are a good place to start. These are internally ordered largely by us by frequency, and are the best official lists for what you're looking for.
