Do the web and iOS versions interact?

mreid   June 25th, 2012 1:06p.m.

I am a new Skritter user. I have been using the service entirely via the iOS app. When I log into the web site and check my progress there, it doesn't seem to be aware of the progress I've made on my iPad. Does this mean I have to either choose between the iOS and web apps or duplicate my efforts in both if I want to use both?

Thanks!

Mike

They are indeed interacting. Make sure that when you do leave your IOS device actually do a final sync. That is, go back to the start screen and wait for the sync to be carried out. I use both the site and my devices and it works very well.

I always exit out to the main screen (with the back arrow on the top left of the screen), after I'm done skrittering. This causes a sync. If it's stuck on 'syncing' (ie. does not get to 'synced') I usually stop and start the app: press the home button, then double-click the home button (to display the multi-tasking bar). Long press Skritter until it squiggles, and then press the '-' circle to close. Then relaunch Skritter and it should sync.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

How do I know if the app is performing a sync? When I back-arrow to the main screen of the app, I don't see any message saying that it's syncing. I managed to force a sync by doing Settings > Data > Status, which produced a full-screen "Comparing With Server" message. That propagated my progress to the web site. This doesn't seem to be happening for me by default when I exit the app or go to the main screen.

Thanks!

Mike

Inside the big 'STUDY' button on the home screen, on the bottom left-hand corner, there should be a 'Syncing' message with a rotating arrow thing (like this: http://www.gif-chat.com/logos/reload.png ); and a 'Synced' message when it's finished. The 'Synced' message fades away after a few seconds.

Best way to force a sync is to close the app (don't just minimize - you need to close it completely), and then re-open it.

Thanks, adamd. It seems like the sync doesn't happen automatically upon going to the home screen, but I did eventually catch it happening. Thanks for the help, everyone!

@malaili2 it's supposed to be an automatic process but the app currently has a bug where it often doesn't sync, so you need to force it by following the instructions others have given above here.

Also what often works with me is studying a few more words and then going back to the main screen again, it might sync then.

I've always found it fine as long as sync was not interrupted; I've checked it a few times recently and the most the app and website have been different was by 2 items! It syncs every time it's on the homepage if the internet is fully connected. If it was interrupted, just pressing study and then home was enough to make it restart.

P.S. Just started work this week and Skritter has been perfect lunchtime entertainment in preparation for going to Shanghai, great job guys :)

I have had a few problems with syncing not taking place until I force-quitted the iPhone app, and restarted it.

In the worst case (which was last night) - Skritter seemed stuck in a loop showing me the same few characters again and again, with zero items due, while repeatedly saying that new characters were being added (none of which were being shown to me).

After a force-quit and restart, I hit 'study' and was presented with 250-odd items due, and many new characters...

Other than this little problem a week of iPad/iPhone use has gone very smoothly- great job!
