app crashes when offline

Olaf   August 23rd, 2012 4:54a.m.

Hello,

Recently my iOS app has started to crash when not connected to the internet, either because I am out of range of a tower or because I have airplane mode on. This is a relatively new development, as I used to use it just fine on planes and underground tunnels, but I'm not entirely sure when this problem started or what causes it.

I am using version 1.0.2, on an iPhone 4s running iOS5. Following advice I found on this forum I've set my account to private no the app, but this hasn't helped.

It's been tough going without the app on planes now that I've made the habit of skrittering in my downtime!

Any help welcome.

learninglife   August 23rd, 2012 6:02a.m.

one possible reason might be that the app is programmed to sync when you open it.

i would try this: open the app before you leave the house or the rach of wifi.
maybe it works.

good luck!

Thank learninglife, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. It works for a couple of reviews, until something tries to sync and then it crashes.

I would like to underline this used to work fine, I'm not sure what caused this problem to emerge. I think the first version of the app didn't have the issue, at least in my experience.

then i would restart the phone or re-install the app.

Learninglife,

I reinstalled the app and restarted my phone and everything is working perfectly now.

Thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it! :)

Looks like I unfortunately spoke too soon and the problem is still there.

Nick or Scott, any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong or should do differently?

Byzanti   August 23rd, 2012 9:54a.m.

Might be an idea to send Nick/Scott your crash logs, accompanied by the steps to make it crash.

I used to get something like this in the beta version, but haven't seen it since...

scott   August 23rd, 2012 11:24a.m.

I did some testing but was unable to reproduce the issue. Sending crash reports might be best as Byzanti suggested, but also we've fixed a bunch of issues with the next update which will be coming out soon.

Olaf   August 23rd, 2012 11:28a.m.

Not sure how to send crashreports but if you think they help and can show me how I'd be happy to send them along.

Byzanti   August 23rd, 2012 12:05p.m.

They're stored in the locations on the link below. Zip up the recent ones that start with 'Skrit'.

When I'm connected to a wi-fi network that requires a user to accept a usage agreement or enter a password in the web browser before accessing data, but I was unable to login, then the app will crash on startup. IfI turn off wi-fi, or connect to a network where I have proper access, then no problems.

@lechuan: That's been fixed in the next update.
