Small Feature Request (Etymology Section in Look Up Section iOS)

马洲屹   October 24th, 2013 11:06p.m.

Hi My-Ever-So-Benevolent-Skritter-Overlords,

Any chance of getting an Etymology section for the 'backend/lookup' section of the Skritter app? It is very useful on the web app as it can add another layer of context to assist in remembering the characters, but unfortunately I don't use the web app unless I am updating definitions etc.

Also, is there any chance to put in your own etymology definitions? I notice that you only have the etymology for a few words (mainly radicals).

Thanks guys!

Cheers,
Joe

a different request from me would be to scrap the mnemonics feature, they seem to be all a load of rubbish and only maybe help the individual who wrote them. I think better use could be made of this feature/space with something else instead

@xiaomai5. One man's rubbish is another man's treasure... I like the mnemonics in cases where I can't think of my own.

But it would be cool to have options to selectively turn on/off the display of sample sentences/mnemonics in the iOS app.

But this really deserves it's own thread instead of hijacking @joeymac1981's :)

We didn't have enough content for the etymology and this is one of the only times I've heard someone mention it, so I assumed that it wasn't incredibly useful. What might work better is to make etymologically informative mnemonics; then if people like those, they'll rise to the top and take advantage of all the editing infrastructure we currently have for those.
