Issue with no words loading

nick   March 7th, 2009 1:02p.m.

Currently, there are some issues where you won't get any new words if you exhaust your review queue and you don't have any lists set to "adding". (HSK Level 1 characters doesn't count, as it's been destroyed).

Skritter should be telling you that you don't have any lists selected, or if you have paused lists, it should be giving you recently reviewed items (although the choosing of those isn't very good right now due to another issue, so they may repeat quickly). There seems to be a bug with that, so it's just not saying anything. Try adding/enabling a list from the vocab lists page.

Also, whiteto2, if you're reading this, you didn't give us a valid email address so I can't respond to your feedbacks -- might this have been the problem you were experiencing?

i have the same problem bit still a lot in the review queue and one list on 'adding'. Started yesterday afternoon (chinese time)

nick   March 8th, 2009 11:57a.m.

Sonorier, are you still seeing this problem? I've fixed some bugs that may be related. Let me know if it's still broken.

sonorier   March 8th, 2009 2:16p.m.

my lists load, the review/add statistic loads, but the flash box and everything inside stay greyed out, no words load, the three loading dots keep on being there. I tried to add another list, but didn/t change anything. From tomorrow i won't be able to connect to the internet unless i go to some wifi bar or something, so this might be my last update until the weekend.

Sorry sonorier; I can't reproduce the problem you're having and I can't find an error thrown, so I'm not sure what would be wrong. We're mowing through a huge mountain of errors here, though, so if you try again we may have fixed it by then. Keep pinging me when it's broken so I can diagnose it better and get you back online.

hm, a while back my browser told me i didn't have flash installed, which was rubbish since i used skritter all the time before that. Anyway I had to reinstall two times to get it workingn again. I was thinking it might be this problem, although then i shouldn't see anything, right?

Anyway I just tried with IE and while firefox seems accept that i have flash, IE still doesn't. Any ideas on this problem? I am positive i have flash, i never removed it except to reinstall it the other day. If nobody else is having these difficulties mentioned above i guess this must be my problem. HOwever i have no idea what to do. Before you say it: i have already de- and re-installed flash several times last week, skritter was working fine except for the day it said i didn't have flash and next after the update.

sonorier   March 9th, 2009 2:15a.m.

well well, it is working now in IE, still not in firefox. Will try reinstalling flash again anyway i don't see another way.

sonorier   March 9th, 2009 2:22a.m.

okay did a clean install of flash (although it said it was already installed) and it works for now, i am quite sure one of the following days flash will misteriously dissapear again.

sorry to keep you busy on this problem that was a problem on my side.

sonorier   March 9th, 2009 3:33a.m.

and yup there it is again, same problem. I guess it's a problem with my computer but I always have to reinstall flash, it stops functioning after a while of practice, even less than ten minutes. anyone got any ideas?

nick   March 9th, 2009 9:45a.m.

That's terribly strange, sonorier. Here's what I'd try:
* Disable AdBlock, if you have it, or check other add-ons for foul play
* Check your JavaScript error log (Tools -> Error Console, clear it, refresh the practice page, look for errors)
* What version of FireFox are you running? What OS?
* Install the debug version of Flash Player and see if it tells you any errors

If none of that turns up anything, perhaps a virus/spyware scan might be in order. I think a JavaScript or Flash error will turn up, though.

This indeed looks like my issue. (I updated my email address.) I was using HSK 1 characters. W/ the HSK 1 words, it has worked so far. Thanks.

sonorier   March 16th, 2009 9:53a.m.

My issue is solved now, I did a virusscan without any big threats but everything seems fine now anyway.
